Expert or Specialist

Today once again I find myself in the familiar role of being an “Expert or Specialist” in a particular subject.  Often I find myself knowing more about something than anyone else in my personal and business contacts.  In reflection I wonder if I should be seeking out to carve a niche of expertise for myself in these subjects?

Self-Knowledge

Self-Knowledge is self-observation, looking at the whole person (mind-body-soul) as one part affects the others.  The process of Self-Knowledge goes from ignorance to recognition, to understanding, to self-acceptance, to the free will of choice.

This is a lifelong journey, traveling through life in self-discovery.  Seeking moments along one’s travels gaining knowledge in to who you are.

James Cameron

“Self-knowledge is a beautiful thing if you can get to that kind of clarity in your life. And you know it never did happen and it ain’t ever going to happen. People can stop asking me, ‘Aren’t you ever going to do a small movie?’ And the reason is I have intimate scenes in every movie I make, so I feel perfectly satisfied that I make that movie every single time. It’s just that it’s got a lot of other stuff in it.”

Consider your own self-knowledge

Consider your own self-knowledge, your awareness of your real self and see how comparably meager your knowledge of who you really is. Your most personal and secretive thoughts, your inner emotional layers that just cannot be conveyed into words, your proprietary fears, ambitions, desires, insecurities, hopes and dreams – who really knows the real you? Nobody but yourself.

Quote by Bruce Lee

“I am learning to understand rather than immediately judge or to be judged. I cannot blindly follow the crowd and accept their approach. I will not allow myself to indulge in the usual manipulating game of role creation. Fortunately for me, my self-knowledge has transcended that and I have come to understand that life is best to be lived and not to be conceptualized. I am happy because I am growing daily and I am honestly not knowing where the limit lies. To be certain, every day there can be a revelation or a new discovery. I treasure the memory of the past misfortunes. It has added more to my bank of fortitude.”

Define a virtue is in terms of self-mastery, or even just self-knowledge

THORNOGRAPHY: Manly Virtues

by Matthias
I think that one really interesting and useful and good way to define a virtue is in terms of self-mastery, or even just self-knowledge, though I’d be really hard pressed to distinguish the two. For the moment, let’s just set aside the
